Wade Phillips As Dallas Head Coach?

First off, I would like to congratulate Tony Romo for winning the quarterback partion of the Pro Bowl Skills Challenge. He edged out Bengal's Carson Palmer, Saint's Drew Brees, and Ram's Marc Bulger (haha TJ.)

The hiring of the Phillips as head coach of Cowboys' could, directly or circutulosly, mean the return of the longtime defensive corrdinator Ted Cottrell to the league in 2007. He was out of the league before 2006, after he was part of Mike Tice's astaff at Minnesota Vikings terrority. Ted worked in the NFL in the leagues office last year, he heard out appeals and dished out fines all year. While that was interesting, coaching is in Cortell's blood and it is what he would prefer to do in 2007 I believe in my mind. And another good thing for Cowboys, Cottrell is a god of the 3-4 scheme that Phillips is bring back with the 2007 year.

But here is another interesting twist: Cottrell, 59, a 23 year veteran, could actually succeed Phillips as the San Diego defensive corrdinator, rather than join him on Dalla's staff. The departure of Manusky to San Franisco leaves that spot wide open for Cottrell. With San Diego also running the 3-4 scheme and being a great Super Bowl chance team, it will be a toss up where he will go.

It will be interesting also to see what becomes of Bill Parcell's asst. head coach, Tony Sparano, once all the dust settles in Dallas. He called the plays for the stats ranked 5th best offense team last year and was leagues fourth hihg-scoring team. He was one of the three in-house coaches interviewed by Jerry Jones for the spot of head coach before it was got by Phillips, and it is said to be in high regards by Jerry Jones. So it would seem, right, that retaining Tony would be a priority? Wait, what position? The Cowboys have already Jason Garrett as offense corrdinator, and head coach trainee, it sames. Which means that Tony could go back to his roots coaching the offensive line and swith a fancy title and a
BIGGER contract.

Well that is all I got to say today. Leave me a comment on here or at myspace.com/thefallenangel_jakeball, and also visit my partner TJ Sparks blog site theflagrantfoul.blogspot.com

Duke vs. UNC Rivalry

The thing about a true Duke Blue Devil fan is that while they are certainly disappointed with last nights loss, but they have to thank their young team for fighting hard. Duke basketball has been on top for quite a while and this season is adjustment to those who hopped on the bandwagon this year, but to those who have been a Duke fan for years, know the Blue Devils will be back. Last evening proved the togetherness of the Duke fan base...at least who attended or watch on TV though.

Freshman Jon Scheyer scored a career-high 26 points but it wasn'tenough to beats the #5 ranked Tar Heels as #16 ranked Duke lost 79-73. The Blue Devils fall to 18-6 overall, 5-5 in ACC, while the Tar Heels improve to 21-3, 7-2 in ACC. This game is the 122nd consecutive meeting of those two teams.

The students staved off a few UNC fans dtermined to show up the the boys from K-Ville, but did not get the job accomplished. On this night, the upper deck and crazies were ones with the team. The fans rode the high of a emotional first high, to the downs of foul trouble and a few missed free throws down the road. Still, Duke fans showed class. The crazies cheered into the very end and most of the upper deck stayed until the game has decided in the last few seconds. Duke showed class...class of winners...the type of class that says, no worries we will be back next time at you harder and better than ever and there will be hell to pay.

So, Duke is in uncharted terrority, dropping to 5-5 in the conference, but they have gotten better and they seem like they will be pretty good coming up to March. Despite a ridiculously stacked and unbalanced scheldue and some questionable calls, and plus being the target of every team they will play, Duke is still in position to make March Madness and I for one think they will.

These guys will get better and there is more help on the way, but a bounce here and a foul there and this team would be atop the conference in what the national media calls a rebuilding year.

Well, that is it for me. If you liked it drop me a comment on here or myspace.com/thefallenangel_jakeball.

Jake's Thought on Sports (Feb. 7th, 2007)

I am not suprised Brett Favre is coming back, is anyone??? Favre's decision to play again just for "the love of the game" and "wanting to help a young team learn the way of things" is alot better than Rex Grossmen's don't give a fuck attitude while partying before playing the Packers on New Years Eve. I am suprised by his timing though, the Friday before Super Bowl. He should have waited till mid-summer so he would get more attenion, or was that is plan all together, not to get attention? Why did break the story to the Sun Hearld in Mississppi? Did he miss deadline for Shoping Cart Monthly? Maybe the Sun Hearld has some dirt on Favre and he agreed to give them the story so they wouldn't release the dirt! I am guessing it has something to do with the Moonanites from Aqua Teen Hunger Force in Boston.

It is insane the the city of Boston is afraid of lights that look like robots/aliens made of lights flipping the bird, and they think they are bombs. This makes me so mad that if I was mayor I make the whole town of Boston wear the 2007 New York Yankees jersey for the entire baseball season. Aqua Teen Hunger Force is the most know cable television aniamted show on TV today. Marketing mission accomplished. Aqua Teen Hunger Force and American Idol is going to kill the horrible city of Boston.

Peyton Manning won MVP of the Super Bowl.Reggie Wayne deserved it, but the worst part of Bears losing the Super Bowl, no more Super Bowl Shuffle.

The USC Trojans have signed the number one (running back Joe McKnight), two (inside linebacker Chris Galiop), and three (running back Marc Tyler) recruits, do I smell another National Championship coming USC's way, but it looks like USC didn't win the battle of recruiting that would go to Florida. Florida official ends the day with a total of 11 prosepts. I still can't understand one thing...why in the world does USC need two of the top nations running back. If I was Marc Tyler, as soon as I heard McKnight went with USC, I would have gone to another school. But I know Tyler went there to notcied by a NFL team, but he stills has 4 or 5 years to impress the NFL scouts.

Same with Florida, they recruited two more Quarterbacks (John Brantley and Cameron Newton) even though they have Tim Tebow who is just a Sophmore, but I can understand them drafting one quarterback for a back-up but there is no need for two. But I guess I am not a recruiter.

All I care is that the #3 Quarterback in the nation, Tyrod Taylor, or is it Taylor Tyrod, finally official dons the orange and maroon cap, and will be heading to Virginia Tech to hopefully become new starting Quarterback for VT. Get Sean "Blow Me" Glennon out of there, also big bad, VT gets alot of great A+ lineman and defensive players to add to there already impressive team which didn't have almost any senoirs at all last year.

Well, it is almost Boogie Boogie Boggity time, I can't wait for this season because with all the changes and new additions to racing this year. Not only do we have Toyota bring their horrible cars in, but the great one Ricky Rudd is finally back, Allah be praised :P, but I was almost drained with the post season with Bobby Hamilton and Benny Parsons both having their life both cut short but problems with cancer.

Daytona 500, as always, is the first race of the season and I love this track cause your always watching out for the big one. I can't wait because I want to see thedrivers get back out there, but I can't wait to see if Dale Jr. can stay with DEI this year, after him and Tersea Earnhardt got into that fight. I guess we will all have to wait to see if this year is going to work.
